Background

Three former Montana Grizzly Football players came to us at HX with a solid idea and a struggling build. Their training app, Strengthcard, was mired in technical debt and UX misfires from a previous agency. They needed a full reboot — something that could serve both personal trainers and athletes with intuitive workout logging, smart progress tracking, and team-level coaching tools. The vision was ambitious: trainers should be able to build advanced routines with ease, athletes should love using it daily, and programs like university football teams should be able to manage entire regimens from one place. We signed on to make that vision real — minus the bloat and bad UX.

Approach

We scrapped what came before and rebuilt from zero. I led the product design from the ground up — working directly with coaches, athletes, and stakeholders to understand what mattered most. I architected the entire experience, designed the branding and visual identity, and produced over 100 screens covering all major flows and edge cases. From personal workouts to group training to complex load progression logic, everything was designed to feel clean, fast, and dead simple — without sacrificing depth. As someone who lives in the gym, I had a personal read on what training software should feel like — and I built accordingly.

Impact

The work was solid. The stakeholders loved it. And like many promising startup stories, Strengthcard hit a wall with funding before it could launch. Still, it’s one of the best-designed workout tracking platforms I’ve ever worked on — or seen. Frankly, I wish I could use it.
