Background

Joel Martin loves live music. He also hates Ticketmaster. He came to our team at HX with a mission: rebuild the broken ticketing system from the ground up — eliminate fees, fight fraud, and make the live event experience better for both fans and promoters. The legacy platforms were bloated, impersonal, and costly. His goal was to create a ticketing system that felt exciting to use, forged stronger artist-fan connections, and gave promoters the tools to thrive without middleman chaos. It was a bold idea. We said yes.

Approach

I led product design and front-end development — building the entire Sellout experience from the ground up. Using Sketch and InVision (the best tools at the time), I wireframed, prototyped, and designed every step of the user journey — from ticket discovery to purchase to promoter dashboards. I worked closely with Joel and real promoters to make sure the platform supported real-world usage, while also designing a front-end that made the fan experience actually enjoyable. I then built the entire UI in React for both customer and promoter sides of the platform.

Impact

Sellout launched on time and is still live — growing and evolving in true startup fashion. The platform continues to chip away at a bloated industry with smarter UX and better tech. For me, this one was personal. I’m obsessed with live music, and helping build something that could make the experience more accessible, more fun, and less exploitative? That was the real win.
